About Kumbhalgarh Fort
Kumbhalgarh Fort is the most important fort in Mewar after Chittorgarh fort. The fort is a World Heritage Site center, included in the Hillforts in Rajasthan. During the 15th Century, the Kumbhalgarh fort by Rana Kumbha was constructed. It is after the name Rana Kumbha to which the Kumbhalgarh fort got its name.
During his reign, Kumbhalgarh Fort is the largest one out of the 34 forts. The Kumbhalgarh Fort went with many underlying histories to glory. The fort underwent many attacks overages.
One of the important attacks which last over the years is by Muhammad Khilji (1458-1459 and 1467), but it proved futile. Next in the year 1567, Akbar’s general captured. The year 1585 marked the victory for Maharana Pratap after he recaptured again. Finally, the Fort again captured by Mughal Emperorship in the year 1615. The Udaipur state got back the fort after the British army returned.
Architecture layout of Fort
The first thing which attracts your eyes is the large bastion before you enter the fort. The architecture feature of the fort is the main reason to conclude about the Rajput stronghold against the enemy. After the Great Wall of China, the Kumbalgarh fort holds the largest wall in the world. You will notice the seven gates or pols before entering the Kumbhalgarh Fort. The fort has clever traps for the enemy.
Inside Kumbhalgarh Fort
The fort encompasses various spots for the tourist to view. Kumbha palace, Badal mahal, the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, and Jain temples sprawled the area. The most beautiful is the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple. The temple is of Lord Shiva where you can see a five feet shiv lingam with architectural brilliance.
There are many other temples like Parsvanath Jain temple, the Bawan Devi temple, the Vedi temple, and the Ganesh temple.
The noteworthy place to see inside the fort is the Kumbha Palace. Structured with Rajputi style with an astonishing blue durbar hall, the Palace is a treat to the eyes. Perhaps one of the finest art in the fort. Adorned with paintings and sculptures the palace stands amongst the crowd.
One can have the panoramic view of the fort and its adjoining scenery from the palace.
Fun Fact
The icing on the cake is the light and sound show, conducted every evening. To view the show one needs to pay 100 (adult) and 50 (children).
