Overview

Kerala is one of those rare destinations where the geography itself does the job. Hill stations, backwaters, colonial port cities, and lush wetlands within a few hours of each other, making it one of the most compact and diverse landscapes in South India. For couples who want to take a meaningful break from the same old routine, this 6 Days Kerala Honeymoon Tour Package brings together four of the state’s most rewarding destinations in a well-paced itinerary that incorporates both sightseeing, leisure, and private time. For travellers planning a couple trip to Kerala, this itinerary provides a good balance of introduction to hill stations, backwaters, and coastal heritage, hence it is a well structured kerala trip package for couple visitors.

The tour starts in Kochi, one of the oldest port cities in India, with a history defined by Portuguese, Dutch, and British trade routes. The layered nature of the city, evident in its synagogues, churches, palaces, and fishing nets, makes it an interesting starting point before the journey moves inland. From Kochi, the way goes to Munnar, one of the most well-regarded hill stations in South India, at an altitude of around 1,600 metres in the Western Ghats. Munnar is known for its tea estates, mountain views, and cool temperatures, making it a combination that makes it the highlight of every Munnar couple package.

After two nights in the hills, the tour moves to Alleppey, the backwater capital of Kerala, where an overnight stay on a houseboat on the canals offers a completely different pace. The experience of a private houseboat with meals prepared on board and views of village life along the banks is one of the most unique stays in any Kerala tour packages for couple. From Alleppey, the journey ends at Kumarakom, a more serene destination on the shores of Vembanad Lake, known for its bird sanctuary, wetlands, and slow-paced atmosphere.

The last day of the tour returns to Kochi for sightseeing in Fort Kochi before the departure. In 6 days and 5 nights, this itinerary brings a systematic mix of nature, culture, and comfort. It has been designed for couples who want to cover meaningful ground without feeling rushed, with enough flexibility built in for leisure, spontaneous walks, and quiet afternoons.

Memorable India does all the logistics from airport transfers, accommodation, local sightseeing, on trip coordination, so that you and your partner can focus on the journey itself rather than the planning part.

  • Standard hotel check-in and check-out is 12 noon. Early check-ins and late check-outs are subject to check-in availability and may be subject to additional charges.
  • Houseboat operations in Alleppey have a more or less regimented schedule with cruising from around 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The boat is anchored from dusk to dawn due to local water safety regulations.
  • All meals on the houseboat are cooked on board by the crew. The food is mainly local and slightly spiced. Dietary restrictions or alternative menu preferences need to be communicated beforehand.
  • Air conditioning in houseboats is usually used only during night hours – from 9 PM to 6 AM. Limited power backup, so charge devices before boarding.

  • Avoid carrying single-use plastic especially in backwater and eco-sensitive zones.
  • Travel insurance is highly recommended for all travellers especially for houseboat stay and hill station activities.
  • Airport transfer timings are fixed keeping in view the flight details shared in advance. Make sure to provide correct travel information while making a booking.

Best Time for Your Kerala Couple Trip

Kerala can be visited all through the year, but the experience varies a great deal with the seasons. Choosing the right time affects the look, feel, and performance of the destinations for couples.

October to March is the most recommended time for a couple trip to Kerala. The weather here in Munnar, Alleppey, and Kumarakom is at its most agreeable in these months. In Munnar, the evenings can get down to about 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, which makes walking the tea estates and the outdoors a delightful experience. In Alleppey and Kumarakom, the humidity is less, and the backwaters are tranquil and picturesque. November through February is also peak season, which means houseboats, hotels, and romantic dining arrangements are more readily available with advance booking. Couples travelling during this window should book at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance.

April to May is the pre-monsoon summer season. Temperatures increase in the coastal and lowland areas, but in Munnar, the mornings and evenings remain cooler because of the altitude. Crowds become sparser during this time and hotel rates tend to be lower. For those couples who wish for a more private, less busy time, and don’t mind some heat in the afternoon, early summer may be a practical option.

June to September is the monsoon season of Kerala. The landscape changes dramatically into a green one, waterfalls are full, and the tea gardens in Munnar are especially lush. However, houseboat operations in Alleppey are sometimes affected by heavy rains and some roads in the hills are affected. This season is therefore suitable for those couples who are looking for Ayurvedic treatments, wellness retreats, or an immersive experience without too many other visitors, but will need flexibility in planning.

The best time for a full range of experiences in this itinerary, i.e., comfortable stays in a houseboat, outdoor sightseeing in Munnar, and clear views across Vembanad Lake in Kumarakom, is October to March.

Day By Day Itinerary

  • DAY 1

Arrival at Kochi and Drive to Munnar (Approx. 130 km / 4 Hours)

Upon arrival at Kochi International Airport or Ernakulam Railway Station, you will be met by a Memorable India representative and taken to Munnar by a private air-conditioned vehicle. The drive itself is a slow introduction of Kerala in terms of landscape. The route goes through rubber plantations, spice estates and small market towns before climbing into the Western Ghats, where the air cools and the tea gardens begin to appear on either side of the road.

Munnar is high up at around 1,600 metres above sea level and was used as a place of retreat by the British planters during the colonial days. The town is a small, unhurried one, with a small market area and access to some of the most extensive tea estates in South India. On arrival, check in to the hotel, get yourself comfortable and spend the evening at your leisure. Overnight stay in Munnar.

From there, the visit continues to the Mattupetty Lake, a peaceful stretch of water surrounded by hills covered with tea and a hydroelectric dam. The lake is available for short boating and it is a good place to take pictures.

The next stop is Echo Point known for the natural acoustic phenomenon on the lake valley and panoramic views of the surrounding hills. In the afternoon, you can walk through a tea garden and observe the process of plucking and processing the leaves at a nearby factory. The candlelight dinner as part of the tour is organised at the hotel at Munnar, which is a quiet and personalised setting. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Munnar to Alleppey (Approx. 176km / 5 Hours)

The drive from Munnar is through spice plantations and forest stretches to the flatter and more humid lowlands in the heart of Kerala. Alleppey is gateway to the famous backwater network of Kerala, a series of canals, lagoons and lakes that are linked by narrow waterways lined with palm trees and village homes.

On your arrival to Alleppey, you get acquainted with your Private Houseboat for an overnight stay. The houseboat is a traditional kettuvallam, with a bedroom, attached bathroom, a small sundeck and a kitchen area with a crew of people who handle cooking fresh Kerala meals from local ingredients. The houseboat moves through the backwaters in the afternoon and evening passing rice-paddies, fishing nets, small temples and clusters of villages. This part of the tour is what makes kerala tourism couple packages to this region so sought-after. Overnight stay at the houseboat.

Kumarakom is one of the less crowded destinations in the tourism circuit of Kerala, famous for a bird sanctuary, paddy fields and the calm of the lake itself. After checking in to the hotel, the afternoon consists of a half-day tour of Kumarakom (bird sanctuary and lakeside). Vembanad Lake is the longest lake in India and one of the most significant wetland system of India. The church was the original burial site of Vasco da Gama and his tombstone is still inside.

The nearby Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a palace that was built by the Portuguese in 1555 and subsequently renovated by the Dutch. It has a collection of well-preserved murals that portray scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranic legends. A short walk away is the Paradesi Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter, one of the oldest active synagogues in the Commonwealth, with hand painted Chinese floor tiles and ornate interior. Frequently Asked Questions

The 6-day package includes 5 nights of accommodation in 4 destinations (Kochi, Munnar, Alleppey, and Kumarakom) along with daily breakfast at the hotel stays, all transfers in a private air-conditioned vehicle, sightseeing as per the itinerary, one overnight houseboat stay in Alleppey with on-board meals, one candlelight dinner in Munnar, and all the applicable hotel and transport taxes. Entrance fees, personal expenses, and flights or trains to Kochi are not included.

Yes. The itinerary is apt for first-time visitors as it encompasses the four most distinct landscapes that Kerala has to offer: a port city with the colonial legacy at Kochi, a hill station with tea estates at Munnar, a backwater destination at Alleppey, and a lake-side wetland destination at Kumarakom. The pace is just steady enough to allow absorption of each place without feeling rushed, and there is a dedicated travel coordinator throughout the trip to take care of logistics and answer questions.

The houseboat is a traditional kettuvallam fiited wooden boat that was used in the past for transporting goods over Kerala's canal system. Today, houseboats come with a bedroom, bathroom, sundeck, and on-board kitchen. A crew of two to three takes care of the boat and makes fresh Kerala meals for the guests. The boat cruises in the Alleppey backwaters during the afternoon and early evening through canals lined with coconut palms, paddy fields, and tiny villages. The boat drops its anchor at nightfall, and the night remains silent. AC operates from 9 PM to 6 AM. For couples seeking a private, slow-travel experience with good food and scenic surroundings, this is the highlight of the tour.

October to March is the best recommended period. The weather is cooler in Munnar, the backwaters of Alleppey are calm and clear, and the outdoor sightseeing is comfortable in all four destinations. Monsoon (June to September) is lush but can affect houseboat operations. Summer (April to May) is less busy with bearable temperatures in the hills.

Yes. Memorable India provides entirely customisable itineraries. If you are looking to stay one more night in Munnar and visit Thekkady wildlife sanctuary along with an Ayurvedic wellness experience, or visit Kovalam or Varkala beach, then our team can restructure the itinerary accordingly. You can also check out our Kerala Backwater Tour for a 7 day option that includes Thekkady, or our Kerala Luxury Honeymoon Package for a 9 day itinerary with luxury stays. Submit an enquiry through this page and a travel specialist will respond within 24 hours.

The package consists of one candlelight dinner at Munnar and a cake arrangement on request. Additional romantic add-ons are available on advance notice, such as floral room decor, fruit baskets, and special meals. These should be confirmed at least 48 hours prior to the night concerned, especially during peak season between October and March. All requests should be clearly communicated at the time of booking or through your assigned travel coordinator.

The houseboat included in this package is a private houseboat. It is not a shared vessel. The crew, kitchen, bedroom, and deck are exclusively for your use during the overnight stay. This is standard across the Kerala holiday packages for couple offered by Memorable India, where shared houseboats are not used for honeymoon itineraries.

All meals on the houseboat are prepared on board by the crew using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The food is primarily Kerala cuisine, which is typically rice-based and mildly spiced, with fish, vegetables, and coconut used frequently. Breakfast the following morning is also prepared on board before disembarkation. If you have specific dietary requirements or prefer vegetarian or Jain food, communicate this at the time of booking so it can be arranged in advance.

Yes, this can be arranged as a customisation. A two-night houseboat stay is possible and can be included in the itinerary by adjusting the overall routing or duration of the trip. Contact the Memorable India team through the enquiry form on this page to discuss how an extended houseboat stay would fit into your specific travel dates and preferences.

The candlelight dinner is arranged at the hotel in Munnar. The setting depends on the property and its available spaces, which can include an outdoor terrace, a garden area, or a private dining room. If you have a preference for an indoor or outdoor setting, mention it at the time of booking so the hotel can attempt to accommodate it based on availability.

The cake arrangement is included once during the tour at no additional cost when requested in advance. Room decoration with flowers or other arrangements is available as an optional add-on and carries an additional charge depending on the property and the specific arrangement requested. Your travel coordinator will provide the exact cost when you confirm your booking details.

The drive from Munnar to Alleppey is approximately 176 kilometres and takes around five hours under normal conditions. The first part of the route, from Munnar down through the Western Ghats, involves winding mountain roads. The latter section, through the lowlands of central Kerala, is on wider and better-maintained roads. Travellers prone to motion sickness should carry appropriate medication for the hill section of the drive.

Mobile signals are generally available in the main canal sections near Alleppey town and in wider open water areas. However, connectivity can drop in narrower and more remote backwater stretches. It is advisable not to rely on mobile data for navigation or communication during the houseboat cruise and to download any required maps or content before boarding.

Houseboat boarding in Alleppey typically happens around noon to 12:30 PM. The boat cruises during the afternoon and early evening before anchoring for the night. Disembarkation is typically before 9 AM the following morning. These timings are set by local operational norms and are not significantly flexible. Plan your Day 3 and Day 4 activities around these times.

Entrance and guide charges at all sightseeing locations are not included in the package. This applies to all destinations covered in the itinerary, including the Dutch Palace in Kochi, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, and any other ticketed sites. Keep some cash available for these charges at each stop. Your driver or travel coordinator can advise on current entry fee rates.

This itinerary has been structured primarily for two people travelling as a couple. However, the package can be adapted for different group sizes upon request. Pricing and hotel room configurations would be adjusted accordingly. If you are travelling as a group of friends or a larger party and are interested in a similar itinerary covering the same destinations, contact the Memorable India team to discuss a customised version of the tour.

The evenings in Munnar can be noticeably cold compared to the rest of Kerala, particularly between November and February, when temperatures can drop to around 10 degrees Celsius. Carry a light jacket or sweater for the evenings and early mornings. Comfortable walking shoes are useful for tea estate walks and visits to outdoor sightseeing spots. Sunscreen is advisable for afternoon visits to open areas like Echo Point.

Shopping opportunities are available at both Munnar and Kochi. Munnar is a good place to buy locally produced tea, spices, honey, and handmade chocolates from shops near the town market. Kochi, particularly the Fort Kochi and Mattancherry area, has a wider range of options, including handloom fabrics, coir products, Kathakali masks, wood carvings, and packaged spices. Both locations have government-run emporiums as well as private shops. Houseboats and Kumarakom do not have significant shopping facilities, so plan purchases around Munnar and Kochi.

The tour price is Ex-Kochi, meaning flights or trains to and from Kochi are not included in the base package. However, Memorable India can assist with flight recommendations and connect you to ticketing options upon request. Let the team know your originating city when enquiring, and they can advise on suitable arrival and departure timings that align with the itinerary, particularly for the Day 1 transfer to Munnar, which involves a four-hour drive.

Payments are accepted via UPI, bank transfer, and debit or credit card. A booking confirmation with advance payment is required to hold your itinerary. Cancellation terms and refund timelines are detailed in the booking confirmation shared at the time of reservation.
