Amazing Ladakh

Ladakh is bikers' paradise and a popular Buddhist pilgrimage destination. While khardungla is the highest motorable road in the world; Hemis and Kyie monasteries are one of the most revered monasteries.

Apart from the above, Ladakh thrills you with is scale. You find yourself awed by the towering snow capped mountains of the great Himalayas. Mighty rivers, deep gorges, expanding valleys and huge lakes with crystal clear water give you a surreal feeling. If you are a wildlife enthusiast you will find rare animals like wild yak, ibex and Tibetan antelope.
You need to plan your Ladakh holiday before time as availability is limited and Ladkah is open to tourists only during the Indian summer.

Khardung La is the Highest Road In The World that is accessible to motor vehicles and stands at an altitude of 5,602 mtrs (18,390 ft). Khardung La is about 39 km from Leh. From the pass it is possible to see all the way south over the Indus valley to the undulating peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. An early breakfast is in order after which we will check out from the Camp and drive to Hunder where you can experience an exotic ride on a bacterian camel (double humped) through the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with the contrast of the snow capped mountains on the horizon. Between Hunder and Diskit you come across sand dunes beside the road. If taken in isolation they could be mistaken for the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan only these have a backdrop of the characteristic rocky mountain landscape of the Ladakhi area capped by snowy mountain peaks in the distance. Diskit which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley will be visited on returning. The bazaar with their shops and buzzing natives prove an intriguing diversion. The most notable spot in Diskit is a 515 year old Buddhist Monastery spread spectacularly on a hilltop, facing the entire Valley.
The journey back to Leh in the late afternoon will be via Khardungla Top. In Leh you can check in to your hotel and spend the afternoon in rest and relaxation.

Driving through a beautifully scenic landscape for another 5 kms is Thiksey, an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village. Two other monasteries will be visited before going on to Changla Pass (5486 mtrs). The long winding roads of the pass present a gentle ascent through Sakti Village. There is a chance for a brief photographic session with a quick drive down to the village of Tangtse for a relaxing cup of tea. There are a few small villages of Changthang on the way from Tangtse to Pangong preceding a sudden view of the Pangong Lake situated at 4,267 mtrs (14,000 ft). This lake is well known for its briny, black traits. It is 5 or 6kms wide and over 133kms in length and runs along the "Indo China Border." The scenery is majestic and inspires closeness to nature. Check in is at our Camp near Pangong Lake where dinner will be served and we will be accommodated for the night.
