Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on earth, some even referring to it as heaven on earth. Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, was built by Raja Pravarsen in the 6th century, surrounded by many peaceful mountain lakes, the most well-known being the Dal Lake. The River Jhelum flows through the middle of the city.
Gulmarg, a hill station located close to Srinagar has gentle hills covered with glassy green grass and colourful wildflowers. It is known for having the highest golf course, 2650m above sea level and is a luxury ski resort.
Sonmarg is another hill station. It was one of the favourite haunts of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. It is nestled in a valley of lush grass, flowers and serene lakes, making it an ideal camping site. The Sindh River runs here. It is also the gateway to Ladakh, the scenic cold desert of Kashmir. The surrounding forests are full of pine trees, sycamores and silver birches.
