Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1
Delhi to Orchha
07:00 am, Departure from Delhi
Your Orchha Khajuraho Panna tour package from Delhi begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or a preferred location in Delhi. The drive heads south via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and then cuts through the Bundelkhand region towards Orchha. The journey takes approximately 9 to 10 hours with a comfort stop en route.05:00 pm, Arrival in Orchha
On arrival in Orchha, check into your hotel. If time and daylight allow, take a short walk along the Betwa River to see the cluster of royal cenotaphs (chhatris) that line the riverbank. These memorial structures are especially striking during the late afternoon light. Dinner and overnight stay in Orchha.
DAY 2
Orchha Sightseeing
After breakfast, begin with a guided tour of the Orchha Fort Complex, which sits on an island formed by the Betwa River. The complex includes:
- Jehangir Mahal: Built by King Bir Singh Deo to honour Mughal Emperor Jehangir’s visit, this three-storied palace blends Mughal and Bundela architectural styles. The upper terraces offer panoramic views of the town and river.
- Raja Mahal: The older of the two palaces, featuring vivid wall paintings depicting religious and secular themes that have survived centuries.
- Rai Parveen Mahal: A small, elegant structure built for the poetess and musician Rai Parveen, set within well-maintained gardens.
Visit the Ram Raja Temple, notable because it is one of the only temples in India where Lord Ram is worshipped in a royal palace setting and honoured with a guard of honour. Nearby, the Chaturbhuj Temple stands on a high platform with a towering spire visible from across the town.
Explore the Laxminarayan Temple, known for its well-preserved murals on the walls and ceilings. Then walk along the Kanchana Ghat cenotaphs for an unhurried look at the 14 chhatris dedicated to the rulers of Orchha. The setting by the river makes this one of the most photogenic spots in all of Bundelkhand.
Dinner and overnight stay in Orchha.

DAY 3
Orchha to Khajuraho
After breakfast, check out and drive to Khajuraho. The route passes through small Bundelkhand towns and open countryside. The drive takes approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Arrive in Khajuraho and check into your hotel. After freshening up and a lunch break (at own expense), head out for the afternoon temple visits.
The Western Group is the most significant cluster and holds the finest examples of Chandela temple architecture. Your guided tour covers:
- Kandariya Mahadeva Temple: The largest and most ornate temple in the complex, standing 31 metres tall, with over 900 sculptures across its exterior. Dedicated to Lord Shiva.
- Lakshmana Temple: One of the oldest temples at the site, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, featuring detailed carvings of celestial beings, everyday scenes, and deities across multiple bands of sculptural friezes.
- Devi Jagadambi Temple and Chitragupta Temple: Smaller but richly decorated temples within the western enclosure.
Your guide will explain the iconography, the architectural layout, and the cultural context behind the sculptures. While the erotic carvings get the most attention internationally, they represent only about 10% of the total sculptural work. The rest depicts musicians, dancers, gods, goddesses, animals, and scenes from daily Chandela-era life.
The evening light and sound show at the Western Group of Temples narrates the history of the Chandela dynasty and the creation of these temples. It runs for approximately 50 minutes.
Dinner and overnight stay in Khajuraho.

DAY 4
Khajuraho Sightseeing and Panna National Park Safari
After an early breakfast, visit the remaining temple groups:
- Eastern Group: Includes the Jain temples of Parsvanath, Adinath, and Shantinath, along with Hindu temples like the Vamana and Javari temples. The Parsvanath Temple has some of the most refined carvings in the entire Khajuraho complex.
- Southern Group: The Duladeo Temple and Chaturbhuj Temple sit slightly away from the main clusters and are less crowded, offering a quieter viewing experience.
After completing the temple visits, drive to Panna National Park. Check in at the park gate with the necessary identification documents.
Board your assigned jeep for an afternoon safari through the dry deciduous and thorn forests of Panna Tiger Reserve. The safari runs for approximately 3 hours. Panna is home to Bengal tigers (reintroduced successfully through one of India’s most noted conservation programmes), leopards, sloth bears, Indian wolves, chinkaras, sambars, nilgais, gharials (in the Ken River), and over 200 bird species, including the Indian vulture and bar-headed goose.
Your naturalist guide will track animal signs and explain the ecology of the Ken River valley. The Ken River runs through the park and creates dramatic gorge formations and waterfalls (seasonal) that add to the visual landscape.
Return to your accommodation near Panna or Khajuraho. Dinner and overnight stay.
Note: Safari vehicle availability is limited per shift. Advance booking is strongly recommended. During peak season (November to February), plan at least two to three weeks. During the monsoon months (July to September), the park remains closed.
