In this tour we journey from the capital of the country to the heart of medieval India to explore the tales of the yester years.     Day By Day Itinerary

    • DAY 1

      Arrival at Delhi

      On arrival at the Delhi airport, you will be greeted by a representative of the Memorable India team and will be assisted to your hotel. After check-in, we head to see the splendours of Delhi, both old and new. We start off with the Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and then visit the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in the country. We will then head to old city to view the Red fort and Chandani Chowk, the street shopper’s paradise. Later in the afternoon, we visit the Qutub Minar, a pillar built in red stone by Qutub-ud-din-Aibek in 1911, Humayun’s tomb, India Gate, a memorial for the Indian soldiers and the famous Lakshmi Narayan Temple. On our way back to the hotel we will drive past the President’s House, Parliament House and Connaught Place. After a long day we retire for an overnight stay at the hotel.

    • DAY 2

      Delhi - Agra

      Today we head to Agra, the city that houses the crowning jewel of India and the symbol of eternal love – the Taj Mahal. Built in 1630, the Taj Mahal was made by Shah Jahan, in honour of his beloved Mumtaz Mahal, who tragically died in child labour. So grieved was the king, that he decided to dedicate his entire life to building a monument that would etch her forever in history. After the memorable visit to the pristine monument, we head to Agra fort which is also a World Heritage site. We then return to the hotel, where we will retire for the night.

    • DAY 3

      Agra - Gwalior

      Today we leave Agra for Gwalior, one of the most monumental cities in Madhya Pradesh. If you love history, Gwalior is the place to be. Filled with forts, palaces, museums and historical structures, Gwalior is a city that is beaming with antiquity and heritage. In Gwalior, we will visit the Teli Mandir, the magnanimous Fort, the palaces which till date houses the royal family and the tomb of Gaus Mohammad and the Mausoleum of Tansen. An overnight stay at the hotel.

      Gwalior - Orchha

      We set out to explore yet another city that has deep connections with the past – Orchha. Dotted with temple and palace ruins, Orchha is one place you don’t go to without your camera. Orchha is a great place to witness what was once the grandeur of medieval India. Here, we will visit the temples built during the Bundela era (16th – 17th century), the Jahangir Mahal, a glorious palace, crowned by chatris, ornate umbrellas, that make the palace a spectacular sight.

      Orchha - Khajuraho

      Today, we drive to Khajuraho. Here, we will visit the famous temples of Khajuraho, known for their ornate and descriptive carvings. The temples are the legacy of the Chandela Kings, who built them between 950 and 1050 AD. At Khajuraho, we will tour the famous, Chaunset Yogini Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, the Mahadev Temple and the Chitragupta temple which houses the image of the eleven headed Vishnu. We cover the Vishvanath and Nandi Temples, Lakshmana Temple, Visha Temple of Shiva, which is the largest & most typical of temples. We then head for the only Jain temple in Khajuraho, and also visit other temples dedicated to a plethora of Hindu gods. We then head for an overnight stay at a hotel in Khajuraho.

      Khajuraho - Jhansi - Bhopal

      This morning we head to Jhansi, to tour the city. In this visit, we will tour the city’s temples, lakes and museum. In the evening, we will travel to Bhopal and stay overnight.

      Bhopal - Bhimbetka - Sanchi - Bhopal

      After breakfast we head for Bhimbetka and Sanchi which are 68 kms from Bhopal. In Bhimbetka, we shall visit the shelters that are believed to have Neolithic origin and having prehistoric paintings. There are over 700 such caves spread throughout the region which make for an interesting visit. Sanchi, another archaeological site is famous for its Buddhist architecture. The Stupa, Chaitya, temples and Monasteries date back to the 3rd century BC. At Sanchi, we will visit the Stupa, the Ashoka Pillar, temples from the Gupta era and the Great Bowl carved from one piece of stone.
      After a long day we retire to our hotel for an overnight stay.

      Bhopal - Ujjain - Indore

      Today we drive to Ujjain, one of the seven holiest cities in India. Ujjain is home to numerous temples and was in its prime during the Ashoka reign. The city was critical in the spread of Buddhism. However, it is not only the Buddhist Monastery one will find here, Ujjain is also famous for its Kumbh Mela, which is a congregation of pilgrims from all over India who come to pay homage to the divinity, once every twelve years. Famous for its Jyotirliga Shrine at Onkareshwar and the ancient Shrine of Mahakal, Ujjain is one city that must not be missed.
      After touring the glories of the past in Ujjain, we head to Indore, our next destination for an overnight stay.

      Indore - Mandu - Indore

      Today we drive to Mandu, the city that has been entangled in tales of love. Mandu was once ruled by Baz Bahadur, who was inclined towards the arts and music. Although, Baz Bahadur’s administration over his kingdom was nothing to remember him for, he has made immortal in history because of his liaison with a Rajput singer – Roopmati. So deep was their love for each other, that when Mandu was finally captured by the Mughal chief Adam Khan (who was also taken by Roopmati’s beauty) Roopmati poisoned herself.
      We go on a historical trip in Mandu and try to relive these tales of love, glory and tragedy. Here, we visit the palaces, baths, pavilions, that reflect the rich Afghan style of architecture and beauty. In the evening, we head back to Indore for an overnight stay.

      Indore - Aurangabad - Ellora - Aurangabad

      Today we drive to Aurangabad. After checking into a hotel and freshening up we tour the city of Aurangabad. We start off with the majestic Ellora Caves. Encompassing a massive 29 kms, the Ellora caves are set of 34 rock cut shrines that represent the Buddhist, Hindu and Jain art, dating from 4th to the 9th century AD. One of the best examples of the architecture and engineering is the Kailash Temple built in honour of Lord Shiva. People all over the world come to marvel at these rock carvings. After touring the caves we head back to Aurangabad for an overnight stay.

      Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves - Aurangabad

      Visit the Ajanta Caves which are 106 kms away from Aurangabad. The caves comprise of Buddhist sculptures and elaborate frescoes that date back to 2nd century BC. After the visit we head back to Aurangabad for an overnight stay.

      Aurangabad - Mumbai

      Today we travel to Mumbai via air, and after we check into the hotel, we head out to explore one of the world’s greatest cosmopolitans, Mumbai. After the fun filled tour, we return to the hotel for the night.

      Mumbai - Elephanta Caves - Departure

      We set out in the morning to visit the Elephanta Caves, which are situated in the outskirts of Mumbai. The evening is free to go experience shopping in Mumbai, after which you will be transferred to the airport / railway station where we bid you adieu and a safe onward journey.
