Overview

The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most revered spiritual journeys in India, taking devotees through the majestic landscapes of Uttarakhand to four sacred shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each of these Dhams represents a source of divine energy and is dedicated to a specific deity. Yamunotri and Gangotri are associated with the holy rivers Yamuna and Ganga, while Kedarnath is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, and Badrinath to Lord Vishnu. Undertaking the 4 Dham Yatra is believed to wash away sins and lead the soul toward moksha (liberation).

Our Char Dham Yatra from Delhi is designed to ensure a deeply spiritual yet smooth travel experience. From seamless transportation and comfortable accommodations to nutritious meals and insightful local guides, everything is taken care of. Whether you’re a solo pilgrim, traveling with family, or organizing a group pilgrimage, our team ensures you receive the most comprehensive Char Dham tour package with complete peace of mind.

The journey begins in Delhi, where travellers are welcomed and driven to Haridwar, a sacred city known for its evening Ganga Aarti. From here, the route unfolds into the heart of Uttarakhand, taking you to the peaceful town of Barkot, the hot springs of Jankichatti, and onward to Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River. Pilgrims trek to the shrine, often cooking rice in the temple’s thermal waters as an offering.

From Barkot, the route moves toward Uttarkashi and Gangotri, the origin of the Ganga River. The view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks and the purity of the river make this a deeply moving experience. After Gangotri, the yatra continues to Guptkashi, a serene town often described as the gateway to Kedarnath. Here begins the more adventurous leg of the pilgrimage — the trek to Kedarnath temple, nestled in the high Himalayas, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and spiritual silence. Despite the effort it takes to reach, Kedarnath is said to offer instant divine connection and immense peace.

Following Kedarnath, the tour moves on to Badrinath, one of the most visited Vishnu temples in India. Situated in a valley surrounded by the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges, Badrinath combines spiritual vibrancy with breath-taking natural beauty. Pilgrims also visit Mana, the last village before the Tibet border, and nearby confluences like Vishnu Prayag and Nand Prayag, adding historical and geographical depth to the journey.

    • Carry Valid ID Proof – Government-approved ID proof (like Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID) is mandatory for all travellers during hotel check-ins and registrations.
    • Registration for Yatra is Mandatory – Pilgrims must register for the yatra through the official Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra portal or at authorized counters on route.
    • Avoid Over packing – Due to frequent travel and treks, pack only essentials like woollens, medications, toiletries, and lightweight clothes.
    • Prepare for Varying Weather Conditions – Weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable. Carry raincoats, windcheaters, and waterproof shoes.
    • ATM Availability is Limited – ATMs may not work in remote locations. Carry sufficient cash, especially before reaching Kedarnath and Badrinath.
    • Mobile Network is Spotty – Expect poor or no signal in many high-altitude areas. BSNL has slightly better coverage than other providers.
    • Avoid Plastic Use – Char Dham is an eco-sensitive zone. Avoid carrying disposable plastic items and keep the environment clean.
    • Trekking Gear is Important – For treks to Yamunotri and Kedarnath, carry proper walking shoes, a sturdy walking stick, and a torch.
    • Do not Miss Acclimatization – Spend time adjusting to the altitude especially in Kedarnath and Badrinath to prevent altitude sickness.
    • Book Helicopter Services Early – Helicopter services to Kedarnath get booked quickly. Reserve early through official portals if required.

    • Limited Medical Facilities – Primary health care centres are located on route, but carry your own medicines and a basic first-aid kit.

Best Time to Visit Char Dham Yatra

The best time to visit Char Dham Yatra from Delhi is from late April to early June and again from September to early November. These two windows offer the most favourable conditions in terms of weather, road accessibility, and darshan opportunities.

Summer Season (Late April to June)

This is considered the peak season for Char Dham Yatra from Delhi. The temples reopen after winter closures around Akshaya Tritiya (late April or early May). Temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C, making it ideal for pilgrims. Roads are mostly clear, accommodations are widely available, and the overall environment is lively. However, this period also witnesses heavy pilgrim footfall, so booking in advance is highly recommended.

    Monsoon Season (July to August)

This period is generally not recommended for the yatra due to frequent landslides, heavy rainfall, slippery roads, and disruption in transport. Although the temples remain open, pilgrims should avoid planning during this time unless absolutely necessary. If traveling, ensure you stay updated with IMD weather alerts and local advisories.

Post-Monsoon / Autumn Season (September to Early November)

This is an excellent time for those looking to avoid the summer rush. The monsoon has receded, skies are clearer, and the landscapes are greener and more photogenic. The crowd thins out after October, offering a more serene and peaceful pilgrimage experience. Temperatures are slightly colder, especially in Kedarnath and Badrinath, ranging between 5°C to 20°C, so pack appropriate warm clothes.

    Winter Season (Mid-November to April)

During these months, Char Dham temples remain closed due to heavy snowfall. The shrines are relocated to their winter abodes in lower altitudes (e.g., Ukhimath for Kedarnath, Joshimath for Badrinath). Visiting during this time is not advisable unless you intend to explore these winter seats of worship.

In conclusion, the ideal Char Dham Yatra season is between late April to June and September to early November, depending on your weather preference and crowd tolerance. Always check the Char Dham weather forecast and temple opening/closing dates before planning your trip.
