Overview

For devotees in Kolkata and across eastern India, planning a pilgrimage to the four sacred shrines of Uttarakhand often raises more logistical questions than spiritual ones. How do you get from Kolkata to the Himalayas? What is the right route? How many days do you need? This Chardham yatra package from Kolkata is designed to answer all of those questions, so the only thing left for you to focus on is the yatra itself.

The Char Dham Yatra covers four revered Hindu pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each shrine holds deep religious significance, and visiting all four is considered one of the most sacred journeys a Hindu devotee can undertake in a lifetime. For pilgrims starting from Kolkata, the journey begins with a train or flight to Delhi or Dehradun, followed by a road journey into the Garhwal Himalayas.

Memorable India’s Kolkata to Char Dham tour package is structured across 12 days and 11 nights. It handles the entire journey from the moment you leave Kolkata to the moment you return. Transport, accommodation, daily meals, temple visit coordination, and sightseeing along the route are all included. You travel through river valleys, mountain passes, and historic temple towns, with each day planned to balance spiritual engagement with adequate rest.

The itinerary follows the traditional pilgrimage sequence. You begin at Yamunotri, the source of the river Yamuna, then proceed to Gangotri, where the Ganga descends from the Gangotri Glacier. From there, the route takes you to Kedarnath, the high-altitude abode of Lord Shiva, and finally to Badrinath, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Along the way, you pass through towns like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Barkot, Uttarkashi, and Guptkashi, each with its own spiritual and scenic value.

This package is suitable for families, senior citizens, solo pilgrims, and group travellers. Memorable India provides customisable itineraries, experienced drivers familiar with mountain roads, and professional local guides who can offer context about the history and rituals at each shrine. For elderly travellers or those who prefer to reduce trekking, pony rides and palki (palanquin) services are available at Yamunotri and Kedarnath at an additional cost. Helicopter options to Kedarnath can also be arranged with advance booking.

If you are looking for a well-organised Char Dham yatra from Kolkata that removes the stress of logistics while keeping the spiritual purpose intact, this package is built exactly for you.

FAQs About Chardham Yatra Package from Kolkata

A standard Kolkata to Char Dham tour package takes 12 days and 11 nights. This includes travel time from Kolkata to Delhi/Haridwar and back, plus the road journey through all four Dhams. For those opting for helicopter transfers to Kedarnath or Badrinath, the duration can be reduced to approximately 8 to 10 days. The 12-day format is recommended for a comfortable pace, especially for families and senior travellers.

No, there is no direct flight or train from Kolkata to any of the Char Dham sites. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is connected to Kolkata by regular flights (approximately 2 to 2.5 hours). By train, the Kumbha Express and Doon Express connect Howrah Junction to Haridwar directly, though the journey takes 27 to 33 hours. Most pilgrims prefer flying to Delhi or Dehradun and then continuing by road.

Yes, registration with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) is mandatory for all Char Dham pilgrims regardless of their city of origin. The registration can be completed online through the official UTDB portal before departure. You will need a valid ID (Aadhaar, passport, or voter ID), a medical fitness certificate, a passport-sized photograph, and emergency contact details. Memorable India can assist with the registration process as part of the package.

The Char Dham route passes through high-altitude terrain where temperatures can drop significantly, even during summer. Pack warm layers (jackets, thermals, woollen caps, gloves), sturdy trekking shoes, a raincoat or poncho, sunscreen, sunglasses, personal medications, a torch with spare batteries, and copies of your registration documents and ID. Dry fruits, energy bars, and a reusable water bottle are useful for trekking days. If travelling with children or elderly family members, pack their essentials separately for easy access.

Yes, though certain sections require physical preparation. The treks to Yamunotri (6 km each way) and Kedarnath (16 km each way) are the most demanding parts. Pony rides and palki (palanquin) services are available at both locations for those who cannot trek. Helicopter services to Kedarnath can also be booked in advance. There are no formal age restrictions, but a medical fitness certificate is required, and consulting a doctor before the trip is strongly advised for anyone with heart, lung, or mobility conditions.

The cost of a Char Dham yatra package from Kolkata depends on factors such as the type of accommodation, group size, mode of transport, and whether services like helicopter transfers or upgraded hotels are included. Packages can be customised to suit different travel preferences and comfort levels. Travel season and availability also influence the overall cost. It is advisable to request a personalised quote based on your travel dates and requirements for an accurate estimate.

Yes, Memorable India offers fully customisable itineraries. You can extend your stay at specific locations, add side trips (such as the Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib, or Chopta-Tungnath), choose between budget and premium accommodation, or opt for a Do Dham (two-shrine) package if time is limited. The team will work with your group size, age profile, and budget to create a plan that works best for you.
