Overview

South India is a region that feels both ancient and timeless. It is a place where stories are carved into temple walls, where the air carries the scent of jasmine and spice, and where the rhythm of life flows gently like the backwaters that thread through its villages. This sixteen-day south India tour with backwaters takes you through a landscape filled with rich history, sacred traditions, peaceful greenery, and coastal charm. You will begin in the vibrant city of Mumbai and travel down to the southern tip of the Indian peninsula, finishing in the city of Trivandrum.

The four southern states of India, each with their own language, culture, and ways of life, form the foundation of this journey. Despite centuries of interaction between North and South India, this part of the country has preserved a strong and separate identity. Here you will find classical music that echoes in ancient halls, temple architecture that towers into the sky, and cuisine that varies beautifully from one region to another. There is something deeply rooted in the soil of the south, and you will begin to feel it as the journey unfolds.

Your experience will begin with the fast pace and energy of Mumbai, where colonial buildings stand beside modern towers, and street life offers its own kind of theatre. From there, you will fly to Bangalore, known for its leafy gardens and progressive atmosphere. You will move on to Mysore, where the palaces still hold the grandeur of former kings. Bandipur and Coorg will bring you closer to the forest and the hills, where wildlife and nature take centre stage. Coorg is a land of coffee plantations, brave warriors, and misty mornings.

As you climb into the Nilgiri Hills, you will arrive in Ooty, a cool retreat once loved by the British, filled with botanical gardens and peaceful views. Then you will descend into the coastal world of Kerala, a state shaped by rivers, lakes, and backwaters. Cochin will greet you with its old-world charm and multicultural history. In Munnar, tea gardens stretch over the hills like a green blanket, and in Thekkady, forest trails lead you to elephants and wild boar. Kumarakom offers quiet waters and flying birds, while Alleppey gives you a full day on a houseboat that moves slowly through life on the water.

Towards the end of the journey, you will reach Quilon and Kovalam, both places that give you the sound of waves and the comfort of soft sand under your feet. Finally, you will stand at Kanyakumari, where three oceans meet at one point, creating a view that is both sacred and natural. Your tour will close in Trivandrum, a city that keeps its traditions close while opening its arms to the modern world.

This 16 Days South India with Kerala Backwaters is more than sightseeing. It is an invitation to understand the rhythm of the land and its people. You will see the past and present living side by side, and you will carry the warmth of the south with you, long after the tour has ended.
