Overview

Kerala, often hailed as “God’s Own Country,” is a realm where time slows down, nature takes centre stage, and every moment feels like a whisper from paradise. This south Indian jewel, lying between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, is a symphony of lush greenery, timeless heritage, serene backwaters, and an age-old spice legacy that has beckoned travellers from across the globe for centuries. From Vasco da Gama’s historic footsteps in Cochin to the gently rolling hills of Munnar cloaked in tea plantations and spice-scented air, Kerala embodies the warmth of tradition and the elegance of natural beauty.

The Kerala Spice Tour is a captivating eight-day journey that lets you retrace the historical spice routes and discover the soul of Kerala through its bustling cities, tranquil lakesides, and verdant wildlife sanctuaries. You will begin in the colonial port city of Cochin, where Portuguese, Dutch, and British footprints remain etched in time. Here, the air carries a mingled aroma of fresh spices and salt from the sea. From there, the road rises to Munnar, a hill station tucked amidst emerald green slopes and known for its sprawling tea estates and echo points. The journey then meanders through Periyar, a sanctuary known for its tiger reserve, fragrant spice plantations, and wildlife adventures.

Kumarakom offers you a quieter retreat with its bird sanctuary and peaceful lakeside life, where the symphony of birds and rustling palm trees serenades your mornings. Finally, you will arrive in Alleppey — a place where time floats gently on the calm waters in a traditional houseboat. You’ll drift along narrow canals and lagoons, catching glimpses of Kerala’s rural life in all its raw charm and richness. The houseboat itself becomes your moving hotel, offering cosy comforts as you explore timeless landscapes.

What sets this tour apart is the way it seamlessly blends nature, culture, and heritage with comfort, luxury, and genuine local experiences. From eco-friendly resorts and spice garden walks to witnessing Kathakali performances and enjoying authentic Ayurvedic massages, this trip invites you not just to see Kerala but to feel, taste, and live it in its most authentic form. The people of Kerala, known for their hospitality and warmth, welcome you with open hearts and infectious smiles that will remain etched in your memory.

Each day of this trip peels back a new layer of Kerala’s charm, from tasting freshly ground cardamom in Periyar, to hearing your voice echo back from the hills of Munnar, to gently rocking to sleep on a moonlit backwater. This is not merely a vacation; it is a sensorial, soulful journey. The Kerala Spice Tour is designed for curious hearts and open minds, for travelers who wish to go beyond sightseeing and truly connect with a land steeped in culture, colour, and calm.

Best time to go for Kerala Spice Tour

The best time to embark on the Kerala Spice Tour is from October to March, when the weather is cool, pleasant, and ideal for sightseeing. The post-monsoon months bring lush greenery, blooming flora, and a fresh charm to every location on the itinerary. Munnar’s mist-covered tea estates look magical during the early winter months, while Periyar offers better chances of wildlife sightings during this dry season as animals come to water sources. Houseboat cruises are more enjoyable during these months because the skies are clear and humidity is low. October also marks the festive season in Kerala, with traditional events and temple festivals in full swing. March welcomes the pre-summer bloom, with backwaters shimmering in the golden light. If you prefer quieter holidays, June to September is considered off-season but remains beautiful, with discounted prices and monsoon magic. Kerala’s monsoons have even been recommended by Ayurvedic experts for rejuvenation therapies during this time. However, heavy rains may disrupt travel plans, so it is more suited for leisurely and slow-paced vacations.
