Overview

Ranthambore National Park, located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, is one of India’s most popular wildlife sanctuaries, especially known for its Royal Bengal Tiger sightings.

Located about 180 kilometers from Jaipur, it takes three to three and a half hours to reach by road in a comfortably air-conditioned vehicle. This Ranthambore day trip from Jaipur can be easily done in a day. Memorable India’s same day safari tour is ideal for families, wildlife enthusiasts, solo travellers, and photographers who are looking to add an adventurous experience to their Rajasthan travel plans within a limited time frame.

Ranthambore was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955, and was included in Project Tiger in 1973 and declared a National Park in 1980. The park’s dry deciduous forests, rocky hills, meadows, historic structures, and natural water bodies provide a visually attractive and ecologically productive habitat. The park has 10 zones for safari, with zones 1 to 5 being the core zone and 6 to 10 the buffer zone. Safaris are done in six-seater jeeps, open roof (gypsys) or 20-seater open roof canters with naturalist guides. If you are interested in multiple-day trips with accommodation and multiple safari sessions, check out Memorable India’s Ranthambore tour packages.

Tigers are common at Ranthambore, often sighted during the day. Other wildlife sightings include leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, wild boar, jackals, hyenas, marsh crocodiles, and more than 300 bird species. The 10th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site Ranthambore Fort is visible from several safari routes, adding a cultural element to the experience.

The park’s lakes, especially Padam Talao and Rajbagh Talao, are important congregations of wildlife during the summer months and are one of the most photographed wildlife destinations in India.

October to June is the most suitable period for a Jaipur to Ranthambore day trip. The weather is agreeable from October to March, and tigers are easier to spot from April to June when the vegetation is sparse and animals gather near water. Afternoon safaris (around 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM) are the fixed timings for day trips. For a Rajasthan itinerary, check out Memorable India’s Rajasthan tour packages and the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore tour.

Valid photo ID card issued by the government is required to enter the park, and for this one day trip to Ranthambore from Jaipur, prospective visitors are encouraged to book well in advance as safari spaces are limited. The core zones are closed on Wednesdays and the buffer zones on Tuesdays.

This Jaipur to Ranthambore 1 day trip is ideal for all age groups, as safari is done from the vehicle. For different trips from Jaipur, see Memorable India’s Jaipur day tours, and for more general wildlife tours of India, see the wildlife tour packages.

Day By Day Itinerary

    Ranthambore

08:30 AM: Jaipur to Ranthambore National Park (180 km, 3 to 3.5 hours)

The Jaipur to Ranthambore 1 day trip will start with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or any other location in Jaipur. You will be travelling in a private air-conditioned vehicle to Ranthambore National Park in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. This journey takes about three to three and a half hours and you will traverse the Rajasthani countryside, enjoying the rural scenery, fields and towns along the National Highway 48 and other roads. This is an opportunity to relax, have breakfast if you have not already and get ready for the safari later in the day. Your driver will drop you off on time at the park.

12:00 PM to 12:30 PM: Arrival at Ranthambore

Once you arrive in the Ranthambore vicinity, you can freshen up and have lunch at a local restaurant or eatery close to the park. Lunch is not part of the package, so you can select your preferred restaurant. Your driver or the Memorable India representative will help you to find some good authentic restaurants. You can also use this time to check your identification documents, which will be required to enter the park.

02:30 PM: Afternoon Jungle Safari at Ranthambore National Park

Around 2:30 PM (depending on the season), you will register at the safari checkpoint with your photo ID card. Here, the forest department will allocate you a zone for your safari and you will board on your gypsy (jeep) or canter with your naturalist guide. The jungle safari will take about three to three and a half hours and your vehicle will drive on a pre-planned path through the zone.

Within the park, be observant. Listen for langur and deer alarm calls, which signal the presence of a predator. Your guide will alert you to these and accordingly plan the route. The road will pass through a mix of dry deciduous forests, grasslands, rocks, hills and the shores of the lake, providing a changing landscape as you travel. Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, wild boar, jackals, hyenas, marsh crocodiles, and numerous birds can be seen roaming around. You can also see the old walls of Ranthambore Fort and some remnants of other structures from the safari route, lending an historical touch to the experience.

05:30 PM to 06:00 PM: Safari Concludes, Journey Back to Jaipur

Once the safari is over, your gypsy or canter will bring you back to the starting point. You will then embark on your private vehicle and head back to Jaipur. This journey back is an opportunity to discuss your encounters with the animals. You can ask for a break to have refreshments or dinner.

09:30 PM to 10:00 PM: Arrival at Jaipur

You will reach Jaipur around 9:30 PM to 10:00 PM (depending on the route you take). Your driver will take you to your hotel (or any other location in the city), from where you can return to your hotel. Your same day Ranthambore safari trip is all done.

As there are limited numbers of Safari vehicles for safari in each shift there fore advance booking is need. Normally a week before advance planning is ok for normal periods. For the Christmas and New Year season, we recommend booking at least one month in advance.

Booking Note: Safari jeeps are limited in numbers for a shift, and pre-booking is mandatory. For regular travels, please book at least a week in advance. For Christmas and New Year holidays and long weekends, please book at least a month in advance to get your preferred date and safari. Please keep in mind that core zones (1 to 5) are not open on Wednesdays, and buffer zones (6 to 10) are not open on Tuesdays. The park is open between October and June, and buffer zones are open the whole year.
